MarsCon 2013 will host the 3rd Annual Logan Whitehurst Memorial Awards for Excellence In Comedy Music. Logan was a brilliant and hilarious musician who was taken from us far too soon in 2006. Rob Balder wanted to create an award that celebrated the best in comedy music, so with the permission of Logan’s family, the Logan Awards were founded in cooperation with The FuMP (The Funny Music Project). The first Logan Awards were held in Akron, OH at Con on the Cob 2011, and the second at DeepSouthCon 2012 in Huntsville, AL hosted by Dr. Demento himself, who is also a permanent juror. The MarsCon Dementia Track is proud to have the Logan Awards as a part of our main stage performances.
The MarsCon Dementia Track is excited to announce that the 2013 Music Guests Of Honor will be British comedy music trio Flat 29! Dan, Charlie, and Rich formed the band in 2004 while they were attending a poncy performing arts school, all living together in ‘flat 29’. After their 2nd album, they started a fortnightly podcast called “Flat 29’s Big Book Of Everything”, in which each episode tackled a specific topic and featured a new comedy song on that topic. In late 2010, they recorded a 30 minute musical about Sherlock Holmes and his time traveling adventures with his robot sidekick Professor Winston, and joined the ranks of the FuMP dot com. In early 2012, they released an album of souped-up versions of their most popular songs from their podcast, titled “Secret Handshake”, which Luke Ski calls the best comedy music album of the year. Thanks to a very generous donation from Dementia Radio dot org, Flat 29 is coming to America for the first time to perform for us at MarsCon 2013. So get psyched, Yankees!
Also performing at MarsCon for the first time is up and coming nerdy comedy rockstar Mikey Mason! His song “She Don’t Like Firefly” went viral, and his forthcoming album “Barbarian Jet Pack” is sure to be epic!
Our other returning acts performing 30-minute Main Stage concerts include Possible Oscar, Steve Goodie, Insane Ian, TV's Kyle, Worm Quartet, the great Luke Ski, and Max Degroot, as well as our “FuMP Jukebox” concert featuring Carrie Dahlby, DJ Particle, Dave Stagner of the Feng Shui Ninjas, Beth Kinderman, Jeff Reuben, and Brett Glass!
We have a whole lot of other fun activities planned, so for all the details on the MarsCon 2013 Dementia Track, visit MarsConDementia.com! So come join us as we celebrate the 10th YEAR of the MarsCon Dementia Track!
