Cinematic daredevil and mercenary freelancer C. Robert Cargill will take any risk, endure any torment, walk into any theatre. He will truly watch anything once. Hillary Duff teen romances; Pauly Shore/Martin Lawrence buddy cop comedies; French, Avant Garde Film festivals. No movie is too big, too small or too stupid to be viewed a first time. The unfortunate side effect of this is that he's watched more films than any human has any right to, which causes the occasional leak of 1000-word diatribes on the genius of The Cutting Edge. It is not advised to spend too much time anywhere near him unless you really want to hear about film for several hours at a time.
Cargill began his career at the now-defunct Guerrilla-film.com, but was soon after asked to join Ain't it Cool News as their Indie columnist. However, it wasn't long before his latent talent for suffering through the worst garbage imaginable emerged and he rapidly became the point man and resident bullet-taker for the films deemed unwatchable by others. Best known for his outlandish sense of humor, willingness to champion unpopular positions on films and his repeated overuse of the words “douche bag“, Cargill has served as one of AICN's most outspoken reviewers for 7 years.
Meanwhile, Cargill joined up with Austin's long-running and surprisingly popular cable access movie review show The Reel Deal, acting as co-host and reviewer for three years. The show then moved online, this time as a cartoon and after one year (and over 50 animated episodes), The Reel Deal was purchased by the New York based MIVA, who then rebranded the show as SPILL.COM - which now is a growing community of film discussion centered around the opinions and antics of its five animated characters Korey, Leon, Cyrus, Carlyle (Cargill) and their robot sidekick, the Co-Host 3000.
And if that wasn't enough for Cargill to do, he agreed to join up with the re-launch of the long dormant film.com, and has since become one of their lead writers about all things film and DVD related. Unlike his review work in his other venues, film.com is where Cargill gets to editorialize more about the historical context of films and filmmakers, share his excitement or dread for upcoming films or turn people on to forgotten or oft neglected classics. Film.com, and Cargill's involvement with it, turns two this August.
He currently stands as the only childless man in the world over the age of 30 to have seen BRATZ: The Movie without a trenchcoat.
