Jeff Easley

Artist Guest of Honor

Jeff Easley is a fantasy artist. He was born in Nicholasville, Kentucky and studied at Murray State University, graduating in 1976. After doing some work for Warren Publishing Company and Marvel Magazine Group, he was hired by TSR in 1982 and did much of the Dungeons & Dragons artwork during the 1980s. Some of his notable works include the cover art of the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, 2nd edition, and the Monstrous Manual. He also provides artwork for many of the album covers for Italian fantasy metal band Rhapsody of Fire.

Jeff says, “I’ve been drawing since I was three or four years old. I just sort of moved toward majoring in art in college as a natural progression. I had always been into fantasy and science fiction. I was a big monster fan early on. My interest waned somewhat as I grew older, but was rekindled in college as I really had to decide what I wanted to do. I was out of college and doing what little freelance work I could muster when I learned that Larry Elmore, whom I had met through a mutual friend, had accepted a job at TSR. I learned from Larry that they were expanding and looking for more artists, so I applied and was hired on. That was a little over twenty years ago, now.”

And now, after about 25 years, Jeff Easley has become somewhat of a legend among fantasy artists, with more credits than he can count in contributions to gaming systems (approx. 198), fantasy book covers & interior art (36), and fantasy magazine covers & interior art (16), most notably for Dungeons & Dragons, Forgotten Realms, and The Dragonlance Saga. He lives nearby in Lake Geneva, WI with his family.
