Hi from your friendly neighborhood Masquerade Director.

I hope last year's eensy, weensy, little snowstorm hasn't discouraged you from attending MarsCon 2008. (So what if it shut down the Mall of America?! That didn't stop us from having fun!)

Again, we are looking forward to seeing all the great new costumes out there! We had some good ones last year! In addition to the Masquerade contest on Saturday evening, we will continue the tradition of the (secret) Hall Costume Contest. You will never know when a judge will sneak up on you and hand you an award!

Of course we will have the Masquerade Lounge back again this year. This is the place for all things costume. Come on in, hang out with other costumers, show off your creations, and talk shop.

We will also have many, many hours of costume-related programming taking place right in the lounge. So it will be easy to find all your favorite panels. Like last year's 'Creating Queen Elizabeth', this year we plan to present a combined wig/make-up/costume demo for all you hard core costumers — 'Creating the Geisha'! (This in conjunction with a panel recounting the history and traditions of the kimono — our nod to the growing popularity of anime costuming).

So, come join us. Better yet, volunteer! We need judges, panelists, mask makers, and other volunteers. As you know, Masquerade Lounge volunteers are treated with Coke® and Chocolate by the Masquerade Director (how do you think SHE makes it through the weekend?)

Hope to see you all at the con,
Rae Lundquist (a.k.a. MarsCon Masquerade Director, a.k.a. The DreamStitcher)
