MarsCon 2005
"Galactic Pirates & Mercenaries"
Airport Marriott Hotel
Bloomington, MN

March 4-6, 2005

MarsCon.org lives on a 266 MHz Pentium II clunker which thinks it's name is Woola. Take that, state of the art websites. Software used includes Linux, Apache, perl, php, Postfix, Mailman, and on and on. Most of the graphics on the site pass through the GIMP. Most of the pages are created in vi. Vi rules, Emacs drools. Or else it's the other way around. Whatever.

Fonts used for our "Galactic Pirates And Mercenaries" graphic are Aurabesh and Robotech Complete. Fonts for the rest of the site are determined by whatever your browser happens to have available.

Galactic Pirates and Mercenaries

The site is written to at least try to be friendly to all browsers. In some cases compromises had to be made. For example, the Konquorer browser, Netscapes 1 thru 4, and MS Internet Explorer don't cope will with backgrounds which change mid-page. Woola sends an altered page to these browsers. The first screenshot below shows how the MarsCon 2005 home page should look on a MSIE or Konquorer browser. The second shows how it looks on MSIE for Mac, Mozilla, FireFox, etc.

screen detailFurther down the page, Netscape 1-4 and MSIE for windows also don't know what to do with transparent PNG images, so they get sent a clunkier version of the coins.

If you think I -- no, no, the software -- made the wrong guess about your browser send an email to (2005 email addresses disabled - please see the 2006 email addresses) including a screen shot if possible, but at least a description of what went wrong and the name of the browser you're using. I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who use Opera (all platforms) and WebTV.
