Todd Coss - MarsCon 2005 Artist GoH

Coss Self-Portrait Todd Coss was born in Florida and grew up in Georgia. Influenced at an early age by his uncle, a present-day artist for Disney, Todd developed his drawing skills during high school as well as his enthusiasm for science fiction and fantasy genres. He enlisted in the Navy after graduation and served during Operation Desert Storm as a photographer. Many of Todd's slide images can be found in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. He attended the Art Institute of Atlanta concentrating on illustration and computer animation, and during that time worked as a caricature artist at Six Flags over Georgia.

Among his comic influences are Don Wetzel, Al Williamson, Berni Wrightson, Frank Frazetta, Dave Stevens, Steve Rude, and John Byrne. Todd's comic-style art has appeared in the comic books Shadow One and Negative Burn (the latter as a quick-sketch winner), and in an on-line "quilt" commemorating Charles Schultz. A recent highlight for Todd was recognition for his work on the Flash animation short "Trooper Clerks", a Star Wars/Kevin Smith parody, for which he was co-creator, co-writer, art director, and the voice of "Darth Jay". The project was featured on the Sci-Fi Channel, in Star Wars Insider magazine, and in 2003 it won Best Animation in the Star Wars Fan Film competition.

Todd is also an active costumer, constructing such outfits as Darth Maul and Farscape's D'argo. He has won awards for his costumes of Londo Mollari from Babylon 5 and Harvey Birdman from Cartoon Network's "Adult Swim" line-up. Most recently he sculpted two masks of the Mangalore aliens from The Fifth Element.

Todd's current projects include a "Trooper Clerks" calendar, and interior art for role-playing books for Imagine Games and Hero Games. He is also developing an original graphic novel series.
