MarsCon Charity Auction
MarsCon's Charity Auction will be held on Sunday afternoon (March 6th). Please help to contribute to support worthwhile causes by donating something for the auction, attending the auction, and bidding for items. If you have items to donate, please send email to info--2006 mail addresses disabled
. You can make arrangements to get your donations to us beforehand, or simply bring them to MarsCon.
Our Charities
This year the convention committee has again voted to support two charities. A portion of the charity auction proceeds has been designated for FenSF, Inc., to benefit the Gordy Dickson Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was established in 2002 for the purpose of helping to send aspiring science fiction authors to Clarion, an intensive writers
workshop which focuses on the science fiction genre.
Our primary charity support will be going to a local effort, run by our own Brian Timms. Family Circuits is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing computers to young students whose families are financially unable to purchase their own machine. The needs of today's students frequently focus on learning with computers and using computer-based resources. In this environment, the Family Circuits program provides opportunities to learn the technologies that have become so much a part of academic success. By maintaining a program that provides home computers, Family Circuits helps prepare students for their future. The machines used in this program are purchased with donated funds, donated as complete systems, or even systems built from donated parts. The majority of the Family Circuits program is focused within the Twin Cities area, though the benefits of being involved are available to most qualifying families in Minnesota.
