Gigi Edgley

Actress

Gigi Edgley

Gigi Edgley is an Australian actress who stole the hearts of American geeks and Sci-fi enthusiasts with her role as Chiana on Farscape, a cult science fiction TV show by the Jim Henson Company. In attempting to live a life devoted to creating reality from imagination and spirit, Gigi Edgley brings a unique personal commitment to every project. A synthesis of her lifelong familiarity with and love for the theater and performing arts, the insights of being a child of a practical promoter and a spiritually attuned mother, Gigi has applied herself with all her industry, courage and spirit to her personal and professional artistic experiences. She credits her mother for an upbringing that allowed for a feeling of the alternative and fantasy, which she feels has also profoundly enriched her ability to create widely diverse and dynamic characterizations above and beyond straight skills taught in her discipline of method acting. She's always felt most at home in the theatre--whether it was peering from the wings at an immaculate ballerina, dozing in the auditorium whilst the actors attempted their twentieth dress rehearsal for the day, or teaching Marcel Marceau a few moves at the age of three.

Gigi was born on November 16, 1977 in Perth, Australia. While in school, Gigi performed both in and outside of school theater, in addition to several years of ballet, jazz and character dance. Dramatic portrayal ultimately became her principal focus; at the Twelfth Night Theater in Brisbane, Gigi had her first professional theatrical engagement, playing the role of Sara, in Picnic at Hanging Rock. In her last year of high school she was awarded drama captain.

After high school, she committed herself to a three-year course at Queensland University of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. In her last year at the University she went for an audition for Day of the Roses, an Australian mini series, where she was awarded the role of Erica Watson. Chiana Later in the year she auditioned for a two-person play with QPAT, Kill Everything You Love. It was an extremely intense drama of two school friends dealing with the suicide of one of the class mates. The play was extremely successful in a dramatic and educational context. she returned to the QUT course to showcase with her graduating year in Brisbane and Sydney.

Moving to Sydney, she continued with numerous studies in voice and other aspects of her craft at the Actors Center, guest starred on a popular TV series, Water Rats, and performed in theater. The series Farscape brought her talents to an international television audience, requiring deft dramatic skill, unique improvisation in movement work, voice and dialect talents, as well as intense commitment in performance and professional demands.

During the first hiatus of Farscape she played a guest role on Beastmaster. Later she performed in an Australian feature film, The Monkeys Mask, but due to schedules clashing she was pulled from the film to continue work on Farscape. While in the United States to promote the show at the Comic Con in San Diego and the first Farscape convention in Burbank, she participated in Seeing Ear Theatre in the production, Titanic Dreams.

On return to Australia she worked as a guest star on Lost World. With the cancellation of FarScape, Gigi found many opportunities, including a role in the Australian mini-series, Black Jack, with Colin Friels, and joined the cast of the acclaimed and popular Australian drama series, The Secret Life Of Us, where she played an industrial designer and romantic lead named George. She returned from touring round the UK and The States to perform as Chiana once more in The Peacekeeper Wars. Directly after this she filmed a rock video for The Hoodoo Gurus, a renowned Australian rock and roll band, titled When You Get To California. Stingers was the next production on Gigi's schedule, where she played a homicide detective named Detective Katherine Marks as a series regular. Recently Gigi finished shooting a feature film named Last Train to Freo. During Gigi's career she has also written a single, purely for her Farscape followers. She introduced it to them in Pages Bar in Westminster whilst fire twirling.

She has performed in many plays including Romeo and Juliet with the Boston Shakespearian Company, Road, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Les Miserables, Boy's Life, The Rover, Kill Everything You Love, 4.48 Psychosis, The Caged Birds and Kakos. Gigi's other film and television credits include Day of the Roses, Water Rats, Monkey's Mask, Beastmaster, Lost World, Pure White Light, The Bastard and Him and Her.

When she’s not performing, Gigi enjoys singing in a variety of different musical styles, plays bongos, paints, writes poetry, experiments with some script writing, and studies and practices Reiki (associated with "hands on healing") on occasion, among other interests. We are overjoyed to welcome this talented actress to MarsCon 2006!
