MarsCon Masquerade Monthly Newsletter for September 2005

Hi, this is your friendly neighborhood Masquerade Director with the September update. This is very late, because I've been very busy.

I went to my first Anime Iowa, and had loads of fun! A little different crowd than MarsCon, but did see a number of familiar faces! Glad Minnesota's got their own anime convention now (Anime Detour - follows MarsCon in March or early April). Great costuming, I came back very inspired, and with some good ideas on how to run Masquerade more efficiently.

Always looking for volunteers. I need help (no, not THAT kind of help) manning the Masquerade Lounge (which we hope to have open most of the convention), 'gophering' for everything I seem to forget to bring, and help with the Costume Emergency First Aid Station (you don't need a degree in tailoring, just know which end of a needle to thread)

I put a couple of ads in the Progress Report #1, so please take a look. I'm hoping to organize an expedition to CostumeCon 24, coming up this spring in Des Moines. A high level and intense weekend of costuming, lots of informative panels, and incredible costumes to drool over (I attended CostumeCon 21 in Chicago a few years ago, and haven't gotten over the experience yet). Please call me soon if you're interested.

I'm also hoping to organize a special kind of 'garage sale' one where artistic groups, fan clubs, etc. can sell off unneeded props and costume, thus clearing out a little storage space, make a little money, and maybe find some prop or set piece that you might need, cheap! Please read the PR#1 for further details, and please call me with any questions.

Well, back to the dungeon (all my clients know that's where I work, my family lets me out from time to time) I'm getting ready for ValleyCon, third weekend in October. I'll be helping out by being their Masquerade Director, too. If you attend, please stop on by, I think you'll be able to find me. I'll be dressed as Edna E. Mode, from "the Incredibles'. HMMMMM, maybe I should dress as Edna for the next MarsCon. After all, she is a supermodel's worst nightmare!
