MarsCon Masquerade Monthly Newsletter for February 2006

Well, here it is half way through February! It's time this MarsCon Masquerade Director slips into her "White Rabbit" mode (you know, it's where I keep pulling out my pocketwatch, scrutinizing it, and then run around wildly, yelling "I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!")

Actually, things are going quite nicely. We have a great line-up of costume related panels for you, all to take place in the Masquerade Lounge (Room #1306). Friday night will see a panel on wigs, as well as Masquerade 101 (tips on how to enter a masquerade). Saturday we have panels on props making and basic costuming. Children 12 and under are invited to "Make Your Own Mask" . (A small donation will be asked, to cover cost of materials).

When panels are not in session, the Masquerade Lounge will be open to all for, well, "lounging". A nice quiet place to sit and talk, to discuss costuming with other enthusiasts. The Lounge will be closed Saturday morning for the Judge's Brunch, but otherwise open for the run of the convention. There will be a schedule posted at the door.

Remember to register for the Masquerade contest early (Please!?) There will be signs directing you to the registration table , located near the Masquerade Lounge. Registraiton deadline is 4pm Saturday! Any questions, please feel free to ask the Masquerade Diva/ Directory (that's me, Rae Lundquist a/k/a The DreamStitcher) or my assistant, the Masquerade Fairy, Nikki Luckes - she'll be the one with the wings!

Even if you don't feel like entering the contest, feel free to wear a costume anyway! (That's half the fun of a con). You may even be awarded a hall costume award, our little way of encouraging you! Make use of the MarsCon photo backdrop (located in the main lobby area) for great looking shots of you and/or your friends!

Remember, there is a 'peace bonded' policy for anyone carrying weapons, real or realistic. You can get bonding materials (zip strips) at OPS. Weapons can be removed for posing for photos ONLY in the presence of a "Mars Rover" (red vested con personell) at the MarsCon photo backdrop, and will need to be re-bonded afterwards. (We all want to think SAFETY!) (If it can't be peace bonded, best to put it in your room or car). Check the weapons policy (posted online here) if any questions.

Always looking for volunteers to help man the room! Duties will be mostly just keeping an eye on display costumes and props, and equipment. Really easy duties! And you will earn the eternal gratitude of the Masquerade Diva! (Plus valuable volunteer prizes!)

Please take a look at previous newsletters. Lots of information there on the masquerade, costumes, panels, etc. Feel free to call me with any unanswered questionsor concerns. 612-722-8868 (that's my home business number, DreamStitcher Costumes) or e-mail me at thedreamstitcher (at yahoo.com). (just don't call before 10am, no intelligent life around here before then!)

See you all at the Convention!

- Rae Lundquist (the Masquerade Diva)

PS Because the ConSuite has chosen to go with Pepsi® products, the Masquerade Lounge will be (as far as I know) the con's only source of Coke®. See all you hardcore Coke® fiends there.
