Music at MarsCon

What's your musical preference? Do you like to perform, to play along, to listen, sing, or dance? MarsCon welcomes music in all its many forms (well, almost all, we probably can't find a place for this.) Check out the many forms of music we're featuring at MarsCon 2001.

CONCERTS

The Nick Atoms bills itself at "a musical force beyond ALL comprehension", so we dare not try explain them. Your only recourse then is to attend their concert (4 pm Saturday in the Martian Music Room - Cabana 115) and experience them.

Vessel Celtic Rock played at MarsCon last year. We are pleased to welcome them back for a concert Saturday evening immediately after our Masquerade (Mainstage).

Kids get their own concert when our music GoH Michael Liebmann presents a Concert For Children (Noon Sunday, Mainstage). J. T. Kirk optional. Michael is also an avid filker, see below...

DANCE
Those who want to do more than just tap their toes might want to attend our dance (Friday at 10 pm in the Mainstage area). Our DJ, John Allen, promises to feature music with SF and fantasy themes.
DRUM JAM
What's more fun than a room full of drums? Two nights of drums, perhaps? Bring your favorite percussion instrument to the Mainstage area midnight on Friday or at 11 pm on Saturday and drum, drum, drum the night away. (Tod O'Donoghue gives a Drum Jam class Friday at 5 pm in Atrium 1.)

FILK
What is filk, you ask? Filk is... well, yes, it's that, but it's also... and sometimes... hmmm. Come to 'Filk 101' with our music GoH Michael Liebmann (9 pm Friday, Atrium 1) and your questions may be answered. Hear golden moldies -- filk songs from the past -- Saturday at 3 pm in Atrium 1. Open filking begins at 10 pm Friday and Saturday in the Phobos Filk Annex (Cabana 203).

KARAOKE
Ben & his Karaoke machineThanks to Ben and his magical Karaoke machine, you can have it all ... backing music, lyrics, and your own microphone ... starting at 9 pm Friday and Saturday in the Martian Music Room (Cabana 115). Amaze your friends with your up-until-now secret Karaoke talents.

YOUR MUSIC
Still haven't found music that's exactly right for you? The Martian Music Room will have a sign-up sheet. Grab an open time slot and sing it - dance it - play it - perform it yourself!
