holidays, all!
This
is a great time for Mars fans! We're all very excited about the
progress of the Mars Polar Lander, landing on the red planet this
very month!! -- and we're eagerly anticipating news of the several
films about Mars which are currently in production. On the home
front, we're busily preparing for MarsCon 2000 and striving to keep
you up to date on the latest developments...
BREAKING
NEWS!! - Our first Progress Report for MarsCon 2000 is now available
for download as a .pdf file directly from the first page of our
web site at: http://www.marscon.com. You'll need Acrobat Reader
(free) from Adobe to read/print it. A link to Adobe is also provided
on our web site. Let us know if you would like a print copy mailed
to you or if you would prefer a .pdf file sent directly to your
e-mail.
ANNOUNCING
TWO MORE GUESTS OF HONOR...
Another MEDIA GUEST OF HONOR coming to MarsCon 2000 is LISA M. GETTO
who has worked on Deep Space 9, Babylon 5, Crusade, X-Files, Profiler,
and many, many other Films and TV shows. She's from Wisconsin and
glad to be coming back to the midwest to be at MarsCon! Check out

Our
ARTIST GUEST OF HONOR for MarsCon 2000 will be DENISE BOIE!
Denise is a local artist whose fantasy art has been seen at many
other conventions throughout the U.S. We welcome her to MarsCon
2000!
CALL
FOR ARTWORK! - MarsCon needs artwork for con T-shirts, Volunteer
T-shirts, badge art, publications, etc... Now's the time to sharpen
those pencils, dust off that mouse and get to work! All art must
be submitted in camera-ready form by March 1, 2000. The artists
whose work is selected will be praised in our Program Book and provided
with gratis copies of the final printed form for their portfolios.

WE'RE
LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD FEN - Yes, we need volunteers! No volunteer-run
convention can happen without volunteers. One hour, one day, or
whatever time and talents you have to offer will be appreciated.
Volunteer for the fun, volunteer to contribute to fandom, or volunteer
for the perks (free buttons, free t-shirts, discounts, etc...)--
doesn't matter to us, just volunteer! Send us a Volunteer Form,
or contact us at volunteers@marscon.com,
or write us at our P.O. Box. You WILL be contacted!
RATE
INCREASE APPROACHING - Just in case you or a friend have not
sent in your registration forms yet, here's a reminder. The registration
rates go up January 1st, 2000, so please register now if you would
like to get the lower rates. Registration forms are available at
many area comic stores and book stores. They may also be found on
our web site, and we are happy to send you registration forms via
snail mail as well. Just let us know if you need them.
UPCOMING
OPEN MEETING - Our next MarsCon 2000 ConCom Meeting is scheduled
for Sunday, December 19th, 1999, 1:00 p.m., at the Hennepin-Southdale
Library in Edina, Minnesota. This meeting is open to everyone, and
we encourage you to come if you can and get more involved in planning
MarsCon 2000.
DIRECTIONS
TO SOUTHDALE LIBRARY (7001 York Avenue South, Edina, Minnesota,
located 4 blocks south of 66th Street, across from Target Greatland)
- FROM MINNEAPOLIS:
Head South on Interstate-35W. Take the MN-62 West exit. Take the
CR-31/Xerxes Avenue exit. Turn Left onto CR-31 which becomes York
Avenue.
- FROM ST PAUL:
Head South on Interstate-35E. Take the MN-5/West 7th Street exit.
Turn Right onto Fort Road. Fort Road becomes SR-5 West. Take the
Interstate-494 West/MN-5 West exit on the left. Merge onto I-494
West. Take the Penn Avenue exit. Turn Right onto CR-32, then Left
onto West 76th Street. Turn Right onto CR-31 North which becomes
York Avenue South. The Library will be on your right hand side.
