Schedule
We are glad you are interested in the MarsCon Art Show. Whether your interest is in selling or shopping, there is information on this page for you. If you have any questions, please let us know at art [redacted; use the online forms] @marscon.org.
Online submissions are highly recommended to reserve your space. The deadline for online submissions is 11:59 pm on February 24, 2020.
Walk in art will be accepted on a first-come, available-space basis on Friday February 28, from Noon to 7:00 pm.
Art can be 2D or 3D, all mediums are acceptable, but must be ready for display. Oil paintings should be fully dry, sculptures should be cured, soft art shouldn’t have pins or needles in it, etc.
We will have grid wall and tables available for display. Please make sure any original 2D works are framed, matted, or have wires for hanging (or they may be damaged by bulldog clips, as this is our primary means of hanging artwork).
We are a family friendly convention – however be aware, not all artwork in the room will be PG or PG-13.
No hate speech or symbolism/iconography of any hate group is allowed. (Please check the Southern Poverty Law Center if you are unsure if what you are using is considered hate speech).
Art should be original to the artist, with any fan derivatives properly crediting original owner/creator of that property/character.
All artwork entries need to be of a Science-Fiction/Fantasy theme.
We will have a print shop area for multiple copies of artwork, such as numbered prints, multiple copies of bookmarks, etc.
Make sure they are labeled with title, artist and price.
No bidding will be taken on these items. Print Shop items are For Sale Only.
There will be no hanging fees.
Based on recent changes in the laws, MarsCon will take a 15% commission on each sale so that we can take care of paying Sales Tax for you. Please remember this when putting prices on your work.
We suggest minimum bids on pieces should be no lower than $5. Please use only whole dollar increments when pricing.
Please fill in a Display Art form (For items to be displayed for bidding) and/or the Print Shop form (for material to go into the Print Shop). This will help us get titles and prices exactly right. If you have questions about how to fill out the different sale prices, please read “How to Buy…” below.
Please prepare your forms in Advance. If you have further questions, please contact us.If you arrive at the Art Show without having sent in the form(s), you will need extra time to fill them out before hanging your items. Save yourself - and US! - some time at MarsCon.
NOTE: Any artwork not sold must be picked up no later than 1:00 pm on Sunday.
Artists should make their own arrangements for insurance, if desired. Artists and/or their agent agree to “protect, keep and save MarsCon forever harmless” from damages or charges imposed for violations of law, ordinance, or terms outlined in these guidelines.
There is NO AUCTION for the 2020 Art Show. Silent bidding will take place starting on Friday until the Art Show closes at 7:00 pm, Saturday evening.
All bids must include your name, badge number, and amount of the bid in whole dollar amounts in the spaces provided.
Each initial bid must be for no less than the minimum bid. Each additional bid must be at least one dollar ($1.00) over the previous bid, and all bids must be in dollar increments.
Once a bid is made, it should not be crossed out. Please consider your bidding choice carefully.
Once a piece has a bid on it, it may not be purchased at the Quick Sale price.
If someone else bids against you, you must bid again in order to purchase.
On Saturday, items without a bid can be purchased for the Quick Sale price. However, they cannot be removed from the Art Show until Sunday, except with permission from an Art Show Director.
On Sunday, there is no bidding; anything remaining is available for the “Sunday Sale price.”
Artwork may not be removed from the Art Show until Sunday except with permission from an Art Show Director.
Any pieces not or sold on Sunday will be returned to the Artist. Any winning bids not claimed by 2:00 pm on Sunday will be auctioned off at closing ceremonies. If not sold, it will then be returned to the artist.
Any piece with NFS (Not For Sale) on its bid sheet will not be sold under any circumstances.
PLEASE NOTE: No electronic or photographic imagining of the displayed artwork is allowed.
Only items necessary for walking or physical transportation will be allowed.
Liquids, beverages, and any items that may be regarded potentially dangerous toward causing damage to or theft of artwork are not permitted in the Art Show display space. A claim check area is available.

MarsCon is a fan-run science fiction convention for all ages held every March (sometimes in late February) in the Twin Cities area. At MarsCon you’ll find panel discussions, parties, guest of honor presentations, music of many kinds, our art show, film/anime room, science room, dealers room, charity auction, and masquerade.
