Art Show Rules
and Information
Here are the general rules for the MarsCon 2000 Art Show. Artists
who participated in MarsCon '99 should have received a packet of
information plus the appropriate forms by now. Anyone wishing to
receive a packet or has questions about the Art Show should
contact Nora
Leverson.
Check back here before the convention; we'll post the schedule of
the Art Show hours and auction once we have that information.
General Rules
-
MarsCon is a Science Fiction / Fantasy, family-oriented
convention, so please keep that in mind when submitting art
work.
-
Art that is not for sale may be entered in the Art Show. Walk
in art is accepted, space permitting.
-
Mail-In art is accepted at the expense of the artist.
Please contact Nora Leverson to make arrangements by emailing
here, or call
763.525.8639. All art should be received by April 31, and
artists are required to send sufficient funds to cover return
shipment and insurance.
-
There is a $0.50 per piece hanging fee for art entered in the
Art Show. For Mail-In art, the hanging fees should be included
when shipped. Otherwise, the Art Show will deduct the cost of
hanging from any sales.
-
MarsCon will take a 10% commission on total sales. There will
be an auction on Sunday for any pieces that receive up to five
bids.
-
Due to limited space, no artist may enter more than 20 pieces
or use more than 8 square feet. That is roughly two panels or
one and a half round tables, or two six foot rectangular
tables.
-
A name card of not more than 3x5 inches may be placed with
your work free of charge. Be prepared to share panels / tables
with other artists.
-
There will be a print shop for prints and reproductions. There
is a limit of 50 prints per artist in the print shop. No more
than 20 copies of any one art piece (size does not matter). No
more than 20 different art works. Prints beyond these limits
will not be displayed or sold. No handling fee is charges for
print shop items. These are sold by direct sale, not by bids.
As in the Art Show, the Print Shop is run on volunteer labor.
If we don't have enough volunteers, the print shop will be
closed.
-
Hanging space is available on a first come, first serve basis.
Artists who help set up the Art Show get first choice of
hanging space.
-
Any art left after the Art Show is closed may be claimed by
contacting us at MarsCon, P.O. Box 600458, St. Paul, MN 55106,
or emailing us here. There will
be a charge for returning unclaimed art, plus shipping costs,
to the artist.
-
Security: No photography will be allowed in the Art Show Room.
All bags and large coats or cloaks must be checked at the Art
Show Control Desk. When the Art Show is not open, the room
will be locked and only the Art Show heads may obtain
access.

Art Show Room Abandoned to Hotel |

Erin Lorenz left the Art Show room for only ten minutes, and look what
happened! Two of our artists (thanks Jennifer and Pat) got the ball
rolling, but The Duchamp Piece eventually grew beyond our ability to
control (there was even a suggestion that we put it in the art auction,
but we had a feeling the hotel would probably miss their chair). In fact,
it turned out to be such a big hit that the Convention Committee insisted
it become a regular staple of the MarsCon universe, so we'll be doing it
again. A table will be left open near the control area inside the Art
Show, and all convention attendees are invited participate. We just have
a few provisos this year:
- No food items.
- No used food packaging material (pizza boxes, sandwich wrappers, soft
drink cups and the like).
- Absolutely no cigarette butts (aka bag 'o nasties).
- Otherwise, anything goes!
