MarsCon Policies

Okay, no one likes lots of rules and regulations. But everyone needs to know what those are and what is expected, right? We like to consider ourselves fair and you, responsible.

Smoking: There is no smoking in the convention function rooms. Smoking areas will be posted throughout the Hotel. Also, no open flames (i.e., candles, lanterns or sacrifices).

Alcohol: Individuals and groups hosting parties are responsible for ensuring no alcohol is served to minors. Badges will be color coded to assist party hosts, but they are still responsible for checking IDs. Any MarsCon attendee caught serving alcohol to minors will be ejected from the convention, as well as the minor caught with the alcohol.

Weapons: Any realistic-looking weapons must be tagged by security to indicate it has been examined and approved. No projectile weapons (that includes squirt guns and super-soakers) are allowed. Any blades must be peace-bonded and no abuse of lasers will be tolerated.

Pets: No pets are allowed in the convention areas. If you want to keep a pet in your sleeping room, you must make that arrangement with the Radisson South Hotel, and please leave your pet in your room. Working animals are not considered pets and are not included in this policy.

Costumes: We don't want to censor your creativity, but please, no public nudity. There will be are other groups in the hotel during MarsCon and we would like to maintain our good relationship with the Radisson South. We are a family-friendly convention, so please plan your costumes with that in mind.

Lost and Found: We'll have a Lost and Found box in Ops, but we are not responsible for lost items.

Problem Attendees and Hotel Guests: No one should have to put up with stalkers, unwanted sexual attention, public displays of drunkeness, or other abusive behavior. We have Security Volunteers roaming the halls (they can be identified by their vests) to keep an eye on things and assist MarsCon attendees with security problems. Anyone subjected to unwanted attention should either contact Ops, the Hotel Staff, or a Security Volunteer.

Many of our policies can be summed up in one statement:

If it's illegal outside of the hotel, it's illegal inside the hotel!
