PROGRAMMING
An
Open Letter to the Fan Community:
We are writing this letter to formally invite you to MarsCon 2000 and encourage
you to participate in programming at the convention. MarsCon 2000 will take
place on the weekend of May 12-14, 2000, at the Radisson Hotel South in Bloomington,
Minnesota.
MarsCon is a "club friendly" convention. We urge club members to
take advantage of the opportunities to promote their clubs by hosting room
parties and by taking part in Fan Faire at MarsCon. We also recognize that
many club members are experts in their areas of interest, and we believe that
club participation in programming strengthens programming and makes it more
interesting for folks who are not necessarily "experts," but share
similar interests.
We are very grateful for the help we received at MarsCon'99 from local clubs
at all stages of the convention and in all departments...not
just programming. Club support is very important to MarsCon, and we hope your
club will consider volunteering at MarsCon 2000 in whichever department suits
your fancy.
Programming for MarsCon 2000 consists of two main divisions: Main Stage and
Regular Programming. Main Stage events include the Masquerade, Opening
& Closing Ceremonies, the Dance, special Guest of Honor appearances, and
theatrical productions. Regular Programming includes the following sub-categories:
Literary/Krushenko's, Media, Youth, Science, Video/Film, Gaming, Music/Filk,
and Fan Fun/Miscellaneous Programming.
If you are interested in volunteering for programming, here are some of the
ways you may be able to help:
- Submit an idea
(or several ideas) for a panel or other programming activity to MarsCon;
- Serve on a committee
which decides when and where to schedule programming events;
- Facilitate a programming
event by coordinating the event or serving on a panel at the convention;
- Provide technical
support for a programming event(s);
- Monitor a programming
room (check water, set up name tags, tidy up, etc...); or
- Volunteer to videotape
specific programming events.
Assistance in any
of these activities would be greatly appreciated by all MarsCon organizers
and attendees.
We are very open to any suggestions you may have on how to improve MarsCon's
programming to make it more rewarding for those who run it and those who attend
it. Please don't hesitate to contact
us if you have any suggestions, if you need more information, or if
you wish to contribute to programming at MarsCon 2000. Thank you in
advance for your help!
Very Sincerely,
Nina Berg, Programming Head
Christine LaBounty, Programming Co-Head
