MarsCon 2004: Let's Play Doctor

Giving Makes You Feel So Good!

On Sunday afternoon of the convention, we will hold a charity auction to benefit the Alzheimer's Association and the Gordy Dickson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Please help contribute to these worthwhile causes by donating something for the auction, attending the event, and bidding for items.

The Alzheimer's Association is a national voluntary health organization dedicated to advancing Alzheimer's research and helping those affected by this complex brain disease. Approximately 4.5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's Association ranks as the top private funder of research into the causes, treatments, and prevention of Alzheimer's, and also provides education, support, and advocacy for people diagnosed with the condition, their families, and caregivers.

A portion of the charity auction proceeds has also been designated for FenSF, Inc., to benefit the Gordy Dickson Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund was established in 2002 for the purpose of helping to send aspiring science fiction authors to Clarion, an intensive writers' workshop which focuses on the science fiction genre. A $150 donation from the fund has already been received by Clarion West to assist the next incoming class. More will follow in the time we have left before MarsCon.

Look at all the keen loot! Bid high; you're supporting two worthy charities.

We are hoping for a fast-paced auction with the best participation possible for all who attend the convention. Many items have been donated, including Dr. Demento's top hat, certificate of authenticity, and autographed picture. We could certainly use a few more things to auction off. Contact us if there is something you would like to give. If you are planning to make a last minute donation at the convention, please bring your donated items to the Operations Desk as early as possible so that your items may be added to the master list and delivered to the charity auction coordinator well in advance of the auction itself. Thank you for your generous contributions.
