The Cow Jumped Over The Mars

Mars Today - October 2002

Dear SF/Fantasy Enthusiasts,

Thank you, everyone who partied with us at Valleycon or watched the Nick Atoms destroy Christensen's Big V's! We hope to see you again very soon! Thanks also to the many of you who recently registered and booked your rooms for the upcoming convention. MarsCon is now four and a half months away, and things are getting pretty busy, so without further delay, here is the latest:

Announcing Our 2003 Artist Guest Of Honor - We're happy to announce that John Garner has agreed to be our guest of honor for 2003. John has been drawing and painting all his life. He has won numerous awards and has been published in TSR's Dungeon Adventures magazine, Starslayer gaming module, and most recently the cover to Cloud Kingdom Games' "Fall of Castle Bondi." John and Denise Garner were married at a previous MarsCon when Denise was the Artist guest of honor. A science and astronomy buff, John enjoys a good conversation on quantum mechanics or relativity as much as one on Star Trek or art. He also enjoys lavish and abundant chocolate and continues to seek the holy grail of the most decadent desert in the universe. Please join us in welcoming him as our guest at MarsCon 2003!

Masquerade News - A Masquerade Registration form has been added to the web site, making it easier than ever for you to participate in this fun event. Major thanks to all the brave souls (past & future) who dare venture forth on the stage and contribute to this excellent show! For more information about the Masquerade, please contact Nicky at

MarsCon 2003 Dance Party - Resistance Is Futile!

I am very happy and pleased to announce that we, Kahless' Raiders, will be hosting this year's MarsCon Dance. There are going to be many new things added to the dance this year. One thing I am excited about is that we are going to be giving away a free pass to MarsCon 2004. When you arrive at the dance, come up to the DJ table and grab a raffle ticket from one of the DJ's. Best of all, it's free! You could win just for showing up and partying. Myself [Paul Merry - General Kruge Urusig] and Lee Jeannotte [General J'Laj Wamwi'Qa] will be the two DJ's for the dance. You know the Raiders always throw one hell of a party, so don't miss the party. We will be playing a variety of music...there will be trance/techno along with some pop and top 40 hits. The dance this year is going to be from 10PM til 1AM Sat. I am not going to make this too long, so watch for future Mars Today updates for new information on the dance and other parties that may be developing. Also, check out: There will be more, so keep your eyes open.
Paul Merry
AKA: Kruge Urusig

Note: MarsCon thanks members of the Kahless' Raiders for their generous offer to volunteer and run the dance this year. The event is sure to rock like never before! Thanks, guys!!

Movie Nights - With Halloween just around the corner, now is the time to get good and scared. We aim to please, so our next movie will be SLEEPY HOLLOW, featuring Christina Ricci, Johnny Depp, Christopher Lee & Christopher Walken, to name a few. Show times are Friday & Saturday, October 25 & 26, at 11:30 p.m., at the Plaza Maplewood. The Plaza Maplewood is just off White Bear Avenue on Larpenteur Avenue (south of Hwy 36) in Maplewood, Minnesota.

MarsCon Movie Nights take place at the Plaza Maplewood Theatre on the fourth weekend of each month. Admission price is $4, and ticket sales help us put on a great convention with a reasonable membership rate. Concessions help out the theater, so don't forget your Dots. Have some fun, kick back with popcorn & pop, see a good movie, and hang with other friendly folks!
